Tottenham Hotspur have parted ways with Antonio Conte by mutual consent after just one year and five months in charge. The 53-year-old Italian becomes the fourth manager in just a space of four years to part ways with the North London side.
Prior to Antonio Conte's sack, he granted a press conference where he very outspoken, pointing out the problems in the club thus flaring up club owner Daniel Levy.
Antonio Conte went on to make remarks about the club which flared up club owner Daniel Levy in his post-match press conference after a his side threw away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against Southampton.
Conte said: “I think it’s better to go into the problem, we are not a team. We are 11 players that go into the pitch. I see selfish players, players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart [into it]. This season compared to last, now we are worse in this aspect. When you are not a team you cannot improve.”
“It is easy in this way [playing without pressure or importance]. Tottenham’s story is this, 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stay here.” - He concluded.
The former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan coach recorded a 54.1% win percentage at Spurs in 76 matches - winning 40 and losing 23. He was hired in an effort to end the 15-year trophy drought at the club.
Antonio Conte was meant to leave when his contract expires at the end of the 2022/2023 season but Daniel Levy was not having any more of it. Daniel Levy announced his decision on Sunday night. He said, "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters."
A club statement further read: "We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio's first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future."
He also added that Conte's assistant, Cristian Stellini, will replace him as interim head coach until this summer, with Ryan Mason as his assistant.
"Cristian Stellini will take the team as Acting Head Coach for the remainder of the season, along with Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach."
Tottenham Hotspur will continue the hunt for a major silverware in the next season as the Premier League title seems to be out of reach, all their hopes of possibly winning a title has been dashed as they've been knocked out of the FA cup by championship side Sheffield United and also out of the UEFA Champions League by AC Milan. Christian Stiellini will look to keep up the top four battle with as they sit 4th on the log with 49 points having played 28 games, two more than Newcastle who are 5th.
